Help the Orphans Milk and Fruit Program ( click here for Grandma Mentoring program) Help Orphans in Far-Eastern Russia Receive the Nourishment They Need! We are helping to spread the word about a milk and fruit program, coordinated through Most Holy Mother of God Catholic Church in Vladivostok, Russia. These pictures are all from "Baby Hospital #3," an orphanage for newborns through 3 years old. Some of the children are HIV positive--all of the children lack proper nutrition. There are about 70 children at this particular orphanage in Vladivostok. Please consider making a monthly pledge, and specify which orphanage. The milk and fruit can be purchased in Russia, but money is needed. The distribution of the food is overseen by Fr. Myron Effing, an American priest at Most Holy Mother of God Catholic Church, president of Mary, Mother of God Mission Society. A Russian religious sister also supervises the project at the orphanage regularly (Read more at the bottom of this page). To donate to the Milk and Fruit program, donate online to the Mary Mother of God Mission Society, which will ensure that your donation reaches the orphans in Russia. A sleepy one month old, Vladivostok, February 2008 A Prayer for Orphans Lord God, Bless these children, so hungry and hurting. Bless their parents, whether living or deceased. Keep the hearts of the staff full of love for these little ones. Let these children be adopted into loving homes. Heal them from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Help keep their hearts open to others that they may learn to trust and love, and open to You, that when their life is done, they may live with You in heaven for all eternity. Myron Effing, Vladivostok Sunrise Issue No. 66, November, 2005: "Once a month we collect the total amount for that month from the mission office and buy appropriate food supplements and deliver it to the orphanage. We maintain the inventory of these products, and inspect for their proper and timely use. In this way donors can be assured that the money they donate actually gets to the kids who need it—this is otherwise a big problem for people in other countries who want to donate to Russian orphans, but don’t know if their donation is actually getting to the kids. Our volunteer for this program at Children’s Hospital #3 is Olga Berdnikova, a long-time parishioner and long-time volunteer for CARITAS, the Catholic humanitarian organization.
